Lori A. Vanderlaan
Lori Vanderlaan is the managing partner of Best, Vanderlaan & Harrington and handles cases for the firm’s clients throughout the State of Illinois. Lori focuses on employment discrimination, complex tort litigation, commercial law, public entity/public officials’ liability, fair housing, dram shop, and insurance coverage litigation.Lori has tried cases in state and federal courts involving a variety of matters including multi-party tort litigation, employment discrimination, personal injury, defamation, and commercial transactions. Lori successfully tried to verdict the first internet defamation case in the State of Illinois. In addition, Lori handles state and federal appellate work, serves as coverage counsel for some of the firm’s clients, and provides consulting and training services in the field of employment law.
Lori has received the distinction of being chosen by her peers as an Illinois Leading Lawyer and named in Chicago Lawyer Magazine – Top Lawyers in Illinois. In November of 2014, she received the Jury Verdict Reporter's Trial Lawyer Excellence Award for Outstanding Defense Verdict in a Construction Zone Vehicle Accident Case. She was one of only 26 lawyers in the state to receive such a distinction.
Lori obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois and her law degree from The John Marshall Law School where she graduated magna cum laude. While in law school she was a member and staff editor for the John Marshall Law Review and was a member of the Labor Law Moot Court team.
Lori is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Northern, Central, and Southern Districts of Illinois as well as the Northern District of Indiana. She is also a member of the Trial Bar of the United States District Court, Illinois State Bar Association, DuPage County Bar Association, and the DRI Diversity Committee.
