In February of 2012, Tom Costello was able to secure the dismissal of an Illinois Department of Human Rights Complaint against the firm's clients.

The plaintiff alleged that she was discriminated against in her housing by the firm's clients, who had rented an apartment to the plaintiff. The plaintiff claimed post-traumatic stress disorder and claimed that the firm's clients intentionally disrupted her sleep, trespassed in her apartment to steal socks and turn off her heat, and filed false police reports against her. Tom worked with the firm's clients to ultimately prove that the plaintiff had filed a false police report and turned off her own heat in advance of a municipal inspection in an attempt to frame the firm's clients. This resulted in a criminal charge being brought to bear on the plaintiff, and Tom was able to have the IDHR complaint dismissed without any action or finding by the IDHR. Meanwhile, Plaintiff had filed a civil suit against the firm's clients that was dismissed, as well.
