James A. Garfield
James Garfield is based in the firm’s Chicago office. James’ practice focuses on civil litigation, including the defense of auto, truck, construction, and premises liability injury claims as well as the defense of complex public, municipal, and governmental entities.James has previously worked as both a plaintiff and defense attorney in personal injury claims. James’ defense work includes involvement in the defense, settlement, and dismissal of multi-million dollar injury cases arising from automobile and truck collisions, complex premises incidents, elder abuse claims, and civil rights violations.
James graduated from DePaul University with a degree in Communications and Digital Cinema. After several years working in other fields, he returned to law school, and obtaining his law degree, with honors, from DePaul University College of Law, with a focus on Litigation. While in law school, James was awarded the Benjamin Hooks Distinguished Service Award, earned a CALI award in the program’s lauded Litigation Lab course, and competed on the BLSA Mock Trial Team, and interned for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
James is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and the United States District Court - Northern District of Illinois. He is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and LAGBAC, the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago.
